PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WPRI) — The Coast Guard says rescue crews pulled boaters from the water off Portsmouth early Sunday.
Officials tell Eyewitness News they received a call for a vessel in distress in Weaver Cove just before 3:00 a.m. The 20-foot long powerboat was taking on water, and its stern was submerged by the time crews arrived on the scene.
Three people who were aboard that boat were taken to a pier in Portsmouth, where EMTs treated them for minor injuries.
Sunday morning, Coast Guard officials say that boat remains partially submerged in the water. They are warning boaters in the Weaver Cove area to use caution.
There’s no word yet on what may have caused the vessel to start taking on water.
