Local communities reflect on 9/11 anniversary

Ceremony held at Fort Tabor.

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI)- The 13th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks gave area residents a chance to reflect on the lives lost that day and to remember those who are currently serving our country.

A memorial ceremony was held at New Bedford’s Fort Tabor to observe the day. The ceremony was organized by Dog Tag Navigators, a group that directs veterans and their families to services and benefits they have earned.

“This is a day to remember the victims and the veterans, the people who are still struggling from the war,” said Cecil Hickman, president of Dog Tag Navigators.

The organization helps 30 to 40 veteran and their families monthly. Dog Tag Navigators are showing a series of murals which will be on display at Fort Tabor through the weekend. The group hopes to then tour them around the city.
