Cops: Speed a factor in deadly motorcycle crash

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — One person was killed in a serious motorcycle accident in Cranston.

According to police, the crash happened around 9:30 p.m. Thursday on Route 37 west, just east of Natick Avenue.

Police Friday morning confirmed Ryan Barata, 19, of Somerset was killed in the crash.

Investigators said Barta lost control of his motorcycle. They said a preliminary investigation revealed speed was a factor. Barta was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Police said reconstruction teams are continuing the investigation.
