Man wounded while walking to Providence home

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police are investigating after a 23-year-old man was wounded late Thursday night.

Video sent to Eyewitness News by a viewer using the ReportIt function on shows numerous officers, police cruisers, and police tape blocking off the scene near 166 Camp Street.

According to Providence police, the victim was dropped off by his girlfriend and walking towards a Camp Street home when he heard gunshots coming from a car. He then ran towards the house and discovered he was shot in the back of his left leg, police said.

Police on scene located eight shell casings at the intersection of Camp Street and Abbott Street, and six more in front of an Abbott Street home.

The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
