NANTUCKET, Mass. (AP) — A fire at a landfill in Nantucket has firefighters busy for a second day.
Officials say emergency crews remain at the landfill in the village of Madaket on the western side of the island Sunday. No injuries have been reported.
Nantucket police say the blaze broke out Saturday morning in a heap of pallets and compost. Firefighters got the fire under control after several hours, but authorities say they’re keeping an eye out for hot spots and flare-ups.
An emergency dispatcher says the section of the landfill where the fire is remains closed to the public.
