Race, walk or roll Saturday, Sept. 20, at the 5th annual Race for Matt and Grace, a fundraiser for two local young adults suffering from Friedreich’s Ataxia (FA).
FA is a rare, progressive, debilitating neurological disease caused by a lack of energy production, which is needed for proper function and survival. Approximately 1 in 50,000 people throughout the world suffer from FA, which remains untreatable and without a cure.
The 5th annual Race for Matt and Grace will honor Matt Dilorio and Grace Hopkins, two local adults suffering from FA. One hundred percent of proceeds from the race will benefit the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance, which aims to slow, stop, reverse and cure FA.
The race, hosted by WPRI’s Mike Montecalvo, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Bryant University, 1150 Douglas Pike, Smithfield. Registration and check-in will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. RaceWire will digitally time all participants.
Online registration closed on Sept. 15. Registration on race day is $35.
Participants are welcome to attend an after party from noon to 6 p.m. at The Last Resort, 325 Farnum Pike, Smithfield.
