PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island’s own Derrick Levasseur took home the top prize Wednesday night on the CBS hit show ‘Big Brother’.

Derrick, a police officer in Central Falls, beat out Cody by getting the necessary five votes from the jury to win the $500,000 prize.

Friends and family gathered on Wednesday night at a viewing party for the finale at Dave and Buster’s in Providence. Dozens of those closest to Derrick watched the nail-biting finale and said they couldn’t be prouder.

“He’s done a great job, he’s played a great game, integrity, he’s played smart, being a police officer certainly helped him out and we’re really proud of him, he’s made us very proud in the city of Central Falls,” said Theresa Agonia.

Not only did Derrick win, he made it all the way to the end of the show without ever being nominated, which is rare.
