Local pilot crashes plane in Connecticut

LEBANON, Conn. (WPRI) –  A pilot from Rhode Island was involved in a small plane crash in Lebanon, Connecticut over the weekend.

An ultralight plane went down in a wooded area near the East Hebron Turnpike and Church Street Sunday afternoon.

Crews on scene found the pilot pinned along with an active fuel leak.

The pilot, identified as Anthony Vespia of Warwick, was extricated and taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to the FAA registry, Vespia registered the plane in 2007 and the registration expired in 2012.

Connecticut State Police say a preliminary investigation shows the pilot was taking off from a private airfield when the plane’s engine stalled.
