WESTPORT, Mass. (WPRI) — An anonymous tip led police in Westport deep into the woods to an extensive marijuana growing operation.
According to Westport police, two officers located approximately 30 marijuana plants about 1/4 mile into a wooded area near Jiggs Street and Pine Street, just off Route 6. Most of the plants were fully grown with heights up to eight feet tall.
After receiving the tip, officers walked towards the woods and discovered a lightly traveled path along Bread and Cheese Brook where they smelled raw marijuana. Behind a fence-like structure the officers located the plants that were labeled with names and planted inside of buckets. There was also a pump, power inverter, water hose, and PH test strips. Police believe the marijuana was worth about $45,000.
Four members of the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Search and Rescue removed the plants from the woods.
