Second armed kidnapping suspect due in Baltimore court

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A man arrested in connection to an armed kidnapping in the Boston area is scheduled to be in a Baltimore courtroom on Monday.

According to Bristol District Attorney Sam Sutter, Adynew Alves, 28, turned himself into Baltimore police last Thursday night. He is due in court on Monday to determine when he will be handed back over to authorities in Massachusetts.

A second suspect, Stephanie Walker, 28, was arrested by Baltimore police at a motel last Saturday. The two are accused of kidnapping a 49-year-old woman in the Boston area on September 23 and forcing her into the trunk of their car. The victim managed to escape on Route 24 in Taunton, where drivers spotted her and notified authorities.

Alves is charged in Massachusetts with kidnapping, armed assault, and assault and battery. Walker is expected to return to Massachusetts this week to answer to charges of kidnapping and assault and battery.

The district attorney’s office confirmed the kidnapping was not random and that the victim and at least one of the suspects knew each other.
