FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — The Fall River Council has set a date for a special election to recall Mayor Will Flanagan.
The recall election has been scheduled for Dec. 16, however a Superior Court judge will first take up the recall petition.
On Tuesday night, the city’s Board of Elections passed on the case after three members recused themselves, citing conflicts of interest.
Flanagan has been trying to have signatures on the petition thrown out, claiming residents were misled about what they were signing.
The council certified the petition of nearly 4,000 signatures last week. The Committee to Recall Mayor Flanagan spent weeks gathering signatures and holding ralliesto express their grievances, which include increased taxes in the city and significant layoffs at the fire department.
