Security plan in place for Scituate Art Festival

Scituate, R.I. (WPRI) – The community of Scituate is gearing up to hold their annual art festival, beginning this Saturday.

The festival, now it is 48th year, is held every Columbus Day weekend.

Each year the event brings in thousands of vendors and visitors from across New England.

In the wake of the Boston Marathon Bombings, officials are preparing extensive security plans to ensure everyone’s safety at the weekend events that will be taking place around the state.

“I think if you look at the things going on around the state this weekend we can feel pretty darn confident that we have in place the best possible physical security in each of the communities that are hosting these activities,” said  Eyewitness News Analyst Lt. General Reginald Centracchio.

The 2014 AutumnFest is happening in Woonsocket this weekend as well.

The three day event includes fireworks Sunday night at nine pm and a parade Monday at 9:30 a.m.
