PROVIDENCE (WPRI) – A convicted sex offender is arrested on gun charges.
Providence Police arrested 26-year old Kyle Roots late Friday night during a patrol of Cranston Street. Officers say Roots was carrying a loaded gun that he did not have a license for. Roots was charged with carrying a pistol without a license and carrying a firearm after being convicted of a crime of violence.
Roots reportedly told police he was carrying the gun, because he had been jumped a few days earlier.
Roots was convicted in 2006 of sexually assaulting a 14-year old girl in Pawtucket. He was released from prison in 2013 and got in trouble with his probation two weeks later, because he was living with children. Roots then fled. Police posted his photo on the Rhode Island Most Wanted website and tracked him down in Cranston a month later.
