REHOBOTH, Mass. (WPRI) – Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that occurred Friday in Rehoboth.
Police received reports of a crash in the area of 23 Providence Street at about 8:30 Friday night. Officers found a Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled over in the road, a Pontiac with front-end damage, and wires down nearby.
Lieutenant Matthew Brady told WPRI.com that the driver of the Jeep, 28 year-old Michael Weaver of Bristol, told officers that he was heading east on Providence Street before the crash. He stated that as he came around a corner he saw another vehicle headed in the opposite direction in his lane, at which point he swerved, lost control, and crashed into a utility pole.
He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for medical treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Pontiac, 26 year-old Courtney Doran of Pawtucket, told police that while heading westbound on Providence Street she had seen two other cars in front of her, one white and one gold, and that the white vehicle passed the other just as they reached that same corner. She did not see the crash but her vehicle then got tangled up in the downed pole and wires.
A witness who lives nearby told officers that he hadn’t seen the crash either, but did see a white car with heavy front-end damage briefly pull over, at which point the driver got out and looked at the damage before driving away.
Lieutenant Brady said that police are still sorting through all witness and driver statements to determine what had actually happened.
