Cranston man arrested on child porn charge

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A judge has ordered a Cranston man to have no contact with children after police charged him with possession of child pornography.

Andrew J. Smith, 52, of 1 Stacey Drive, was taken into custody Friday by members of the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC), according to state police Col. Steven O’Donnell.

During the month of September, the ICAC Task Force was contacted by the FBI requesting assistance in an ongoing investigation involving people in multiple states communicating and trading child porn images and videos.

Smith was arraigned and released on $10,000 bail with special conditions, which include no contact with children and no Internet use.
