CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles and Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee have revealed the new Rhode Island license plate design which will replace the iconic wave license plates starting in 2015.
An example of the new design, which replaces the iconic wave with an all blue design, was shown during an informational news conference Friday morning at the DMV headquarters in Cranston.
Instead of the blue wave, the entire plate will be blue. The top will read “Beautiful Rhode Island,” much like the signs posted around state highways.
According to The Providence Journal, “All wave license plates will gradually be replaced in the vehicle owner’s normal renewal month and over a 24-month period beginning Sept. 1, 2015.”
The last reissuance took place 17 years ago when the current blue and white wave design was issued.
The new license plate design will be available starting in September 2015.
