Two arrested after shooting in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Police arrested two men after a shooting on Pine Street Saturday morning.

According to police records, two officers were on a detail on Friendship Street at about 2:30 a.m. when they heard what they believed to be two gunshots from a parking lot near two clubs.

The officers headed that way and a bystander told them the shots had come from a BMW which was still in the parking lot. Both officers approached the car, which was backing out of a parking space, and ordered the two occupants out of the car at gunpoint.

While searching the car, the officers spotted a revolver on the floor, which had been fired twice.

The two men, 23 year-old Nathan Jeter and 22 year-old Dominic Hernandez, both of Woonsocket, were arrested. Police said that the serial number on the gun had been scratched off.

Meanwhile, officers found a 22 year-old man from Dracut, Mass., on Pine Street with a gunshot wound to his hand. He was taken to the hospital for treatment but provided little information on what had occurred.

Major David Lapatin of the Providence Police Department told Eyewitness News that the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
