CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) – Two people were hurt, one seriously, after a motorcycle crash on Interstate 95 Saturday morning.
Sergeant John Charbonneau of the Rhode Island State Police said that the wreck happened on 95 North in the area of Exit 16 a few minutes before 11 a.m.
A couple from Warwick was on the motorcycle when the crash occurred; the male driver was not wearing a motorcycle helmet and was seriously injured while the female passenger was wearing a helmet and suffered non life-threatening injuries.
The two were in their mid-50s and State Police declined to identify them by name.
The initial State Police investigation indicated that a pickup truck driven by an 80 year-old Coventry man changed lanes into the motorcycle’s lane and caused the motorcycle driver to lose control.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
State Police said that part of the highway was closed for about 90 minutes while the cleanup and investigation took place, and traffic was congested into the early afternoon.
The crash remains under investigation.
