Brown University accepts $121 million in gifts

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Brown University’s governing body has accepted $121 million in gifts for the school’s financial aid, internship and academic programs.

The Corporation formally accepted the 13 gifts during its fall meeting Saturday. It also established five named professor positions and one head coaching position for women’s soccer, and approved six-year terms for four new trustees.

University policy requires that the Corporation formally accept gifts of $1 million or more.

Brown President Christina Paxson says the gifts are a welcome and powerful demonstration of support.

Among the gifts, anonymous donors gave $38.7 million for the school’s strategic plan and $20 million for a new engineering building.

The professor positions are in the fields of international studies and international affairs, brain science, China studies and engineering.
