NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — A scary encounter early Sunday morning, after North Kingstown police said a 21-year-old man broke into a house and sexually assaulted a woman in her sleep.

According to police, detectives responded to the home on Tower Hill Road around 3:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting that a man had entered the house and sexually assaulted a woman.

Police said the suspect, Ronald Wright, fought with the homeowner, broke free, and left the house.

But, it didn’t take long for patrols, K-9 units and investigators to track down Wright. Police arrested him soon after and he was charged with one count of breaking and entering in the night and one count of first-degree sexual assault.

Wright was arraigned in district court Tuesday and is currently being held without bail. The investigation continues as additional charges are pending.
