Police: Man caught breaking into New Bedford store

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A New Bedford man is facing several charges after he was caught by police breaking into a city store.

Quiton Chapple, 30, of Sherman Street, was arrested early Friday morning, according to police.

Suspicious activity was reported in the area of Family Dollar on Purchase Street at about 2:30 a.m., and officers arrived to find Chapple had smashed through the front door in an effort to get inside.

Police said a small amount of crack cocaine and Xanax were found in his possession. The suspect was arrested without incident.

Chapple was arraigned Friday on charges of attempted breaking and entering in the nighttime, malicious destruction of property, and illegal possession of class B and class E drugs.
