WaterFire celebrates Brown Univ. with special lighting

(WPRI) — The city of Providence is about to “Light It Up” for a big celebration of its ivy league school.

Brown University is marking its 250th anniversary and WaterFire Providence is celebrating this major milestone on October 25.

Brown students, alumni and their family and friends are invited to stop by the Starry Starry Night field all evening long to light a luminaria candle lantern and share their memories of and hopes for an institution that has shaped so many lives and the Providence community.

“Sponsoring WaterFire Providence during Brown’s 250th Anniversary is a wonderful way for Brown to offer a memorable evening to the Providence and Rhode Island communities. We are also so pleased that we could sponsor a lighting in conjunction with Brown’s Family Weekend 2014 when our students welcome family and friends to campus to discover more about Brown and our capital city as well,” Eve Ornstedt, Executive Director, Office of the 250th Anniversary, Brown University said.

The Brown University Chorus will be performing in the RISD Auditorium as part of Brown Family Weekend from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Pieces will feature songs of water and fire including Morten Lauridsen’s, “Fire Songs,” and Eric Whitacre’s, “Water Night,” among others. Tickets are $15 for general admission or $5 for students, seniors and those with a Brown University or RISD ID.
