PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – On Wednesday the Providence Police Department revealed its new police vehicles to the public.
The department has received forty marked SUV’s and fifteen unmarked.
Officials said officers prefer SUV’s, and that’s why the city chose the 2015 Ford Interceptor Utility.
According to Mayor Angel Taveras, the city signed a new lease to purchase the vehicles. This lease is similar to the one which recently expired, so there will be no increase in cost to taxpayers.
Providence has just added 52 new officers to its ranks, and the new cars will be assigned to the officers with the cleanest driving records.
