Study suggests RI consolidate dispatch centers to save money

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The general assembly is looking into having cities and towns share services to share money.

One option would be consolidating the 72 local emergency dispatch centers and creating regional centers instead. And the 911 systems is being updated so people can report emergencies via text message.

Right now, 911 calls go to state police headquarters and then are connected to local centers.
