WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A Woonsocket man hoped the safety of his own home would help him escape police, but in the end he was arrested and charged.

Mark Boiteau, 52, was taken into custody at his Park Avenue home Thursday, according to police.

Police said Rhode Island State Police troopers tried to pull over Boiteau’s car on Cumberland Hill Road, but he took off without stopping. A Woonsocket officer then spotted him traveling at a high rate of speed on Hamlet Avenue and gave chase.

The pursuit ended on Park Avenue, where the suspect left his car and fled into a house there, which police later determined to be his residence.

Officers sealed off the area and checked out the house, and found Boiteau hiding in the attic.

Charges against Boiteau include reckless driving and resisting arrest, and police said he also had outstanding warrants for his arrest.
