Web Extra: Centracchio on security for Obama’s RI visit

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Eyewitness News Analyst Lt. Gen. Reginald Centracchio joined us Wednesday to discuss the state’s preparations for President Obama’s visit and the passing of longtime Boston Mayor Tom Menino.

The general said six agencies and the EMA are providing assistance to the Secret Service for when the president comes to town Thursday night. The plan is increased from Obama’s canceled trip two weeks ago because he’s spending the night.

Centracchio talked to officials who told him that each city’s contingency fund will pay for the security details.

The general also spoke about his friendship with former Boston Mayor Tom Menino, who passed away at the age of 71. He said the former mayor was excellent to the military and was easy to get along with.
