Vacant Westerly home destroyed by fire

WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI) – An early-morning fire destroyed a vacant home in Westerly and damaged an adjacent business.

The fire broke out in a building on Canal Street next to “Trash and Treasures,” an antiques store, at about 3 a.m.

The top floor of the three-story home was completely burned away.

Police and utility crews remained on scene late Sunday morning; Westerly Police Chief Ed St. Clair told Eyewitness News that Westerly police detectives and the State Fire Marshal’s office are investigating the blaze.
