Students brave cold, raise money for homeless

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — 125 students are bundled up, calling a makeshift camp at a local ball field home.

In it’s eighth year, the annual event has children from Evangelical Convent Church sleeping outdoors, so they have a better understanding of what it is like to be homeless, while raising money for the less fortunate.

“There’s been rainy weekends, there was a tornado warning, there’s been snow, there’s been scold weather below 20 degrees. These kids have done it every year,” organizer Don McClain told Eyewitness News.

On Saturday, the group will spread out across several communities collection donations. The students will then serve dinner at a local soup kitchen before returning to their boxes to sleep for a second night.
