Rhode Island is searching for its next Cherry Blossom Princess to represent the state at the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C. next year.
Kim Kalunian, the reigning princess, joined The Rhode Show on Monday to talk about her year holding the title.
The Cherry Blossom Princess is for young women ages 19-24, and is based on their achievements in community service, education, and in the workplace. To apply, simply send in a resume and an essay that explains why you should represent your home state of Rhode Island.
“I consider it a backstage pass for everything that Washington D.C. has to offer, there’s amazing cultural opportunities, you get to learn about leadership and international relations, and its a once in a lifetime experience for young women,” Kim said.
When down in Washington D.C., there’s no competition for who will be the Cherry Blossom Queen. She’s chosen at random.
To apply, send a one page resume and essay to RIStateSociety@gmail.com. Any questions can be directed to the Rhode Island State Society.
