Police: Man put in bear hug, robbed in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Police are looking for a suspect in connection with an unusual robbery in New Bedford Sunday afternoon.

According to city police, a man was walking home in the area of County and Rivet Streets at about 12:45 p.m. when another man grabbed him from behind in a bear hug, then reached into his pockets and took some cash.

The incident was caught on surveillance video.

The suspect and a second man were seen running away from the scene on Purchase Street. The victim described the suspects as light-skinned males with slim builds, standing between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-10, and wearing light-colored clothing.
