PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A tunnel that was closed after a water main break will reopen Monday.
The College Hill tunnel was closed Thursday night after a 100 year-old water main ruptured. RIPTA buses which use the tunnel had to be detoured as Providence Water crews made repairs, which were completed Friday evening.
About 100 customers in the area were without water while that work was completed.
Sunday afternoon, RIPTA announced that their inspectors had inspected the tunnel and found it structurally sound, and that it would be open again on Monday.
The affected routes are Routes 1, 35, 40, 49, 61X, 78 and 92.
