PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence police are investigating after a man was shot late Thanksgiving night.
Officers confirmed to Eyewitness News that a man was shot around 11 on Thursday night in the Federal Hill area. The victim, a 22-year-old Providence man, is being treated at Rhode Island Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Major David Lapatin told Eyewitness News that the victim is not cooperating with investigators, so police have not been able to determine the exact location of the shooting. The victim did claim, however, that a passerby drove him to the hospital.
Providence Fire Department officials confirmed that the man was not transported by the fire department and were also unsure where the incident occurred.
Police were first dispatched just before 11 p.m. to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for a report of a gunshot victim. Police then spoke with the victim who stated that he was at a friends’ house somewhere near Federal Hill.
The victim then told police he was walking back to his residence when he observed a dark blue Toyota Corolla approach and an occupant fire several shots at him, two of which struck him in his left leg.
The victim then waved down a passing vehicle, which he could not identify, and they brought him to Hasbro Children’s Hospital. He was later transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
