PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A home and a neighboring building sustained extensive damage after a fire broke out on Tuesday night.
Emergency crews responded to a home on Priscilla Avenue around 9:30 p.m. to battle flames inside of the three-story home. The fire damaged the home where the flames broke out, as well as a neighboring building.
Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Desmarais told Eyewitness News that two adults and three children who were living on the first floor were able to get out safely.
A neighbor was the first person to call 911 after he spotted the flames.
“The flames were so thick, they definitely needed the fire department to come down, so I said ‘let me call’. I smelled the smoke,” said neighbor Jay Williams.
One firefighter sustained burns to his hand and was taken to Roger Williams Hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
