PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WPRI) — A Middletown teen is facing a reckless driving charge, after Portsmouth police said he crashed while racing another car.
Police said a baby and two other passengers were in the 17-year-old’s car when it flipped on East Main Road near Sub Toe Lane Sunday afternoon. According to police, the teen claimed he pulled the parking brake because he thought his regular brakes weren’t working.
However, police said eyewitnesses reported seeing the teen’s VW Golf racing another car just before it lost control and rolled over. Officers arrested the 17-year-old based on eyewitness testimony and evidence at the scene.
The infant and the other two passengers in the car were taken to Newport Hospital to be checked for injuries, police said.
