CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — A Richmond man accused of robbing a store at gunpoint turned himself in nearly six months after the crime occurred.
According to Charlestown police, Samuel Lemont handed himself over Tuesday after a warrant was put out for his arrest.
Lemont, 20, is accused of holding up the Country Food Mart on South County Trail (Route 2) with a semi-automatic handgun back on June 18. The clerk gave police a description of the suspect and said he fled on foot in the direction of Shannock Village.
Investigators were able to locate clothing items that matched the description and had them sent to the Department of Health for analysis. The investigation led to the identification of Lemont as the suspect, and a warrant was obtained for his arrest on Monday.
Lemont was arraigned in court Wednesday on a charge of first-degree robbery.
