WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — A Warwick man continues to recover after he was struck by a car and seriously injured in the city Wednesday.
Police have identified the victim as John Lacki, 64, of Spadina Avenue. They said he was crossing West Shore Road near the Conimicut Post Office at about 4 p.m. when he was struck by a 2006 Saturn traveling westbound.
Eyewitnesses indicated to police that the driver, an 18-year-old man from Warwick, may not have had his headlights on at the time, which may have contributed to the crash.
Lacki was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries, and as of Thursday night was listed in good condition.
Police said criminal charges against the driver are not likely, but the crash remains under investigation. It does not appear that alcohol was a factor.
Anyone that may have witnessed the incident is asked to call the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at (401) 468-4200.
