WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Dozens of non-profit organizations across Southern New England received an extra holiday boost on Thursday.
Money raised from the CVS Health Charity Classic in June was distributed to nearly eighty non-profits. The annual tournament attracts world-class golfers each year and is the largest charitable sporting event in Rhode Island.
“When late June comes, you know we’re gonna have a great golf tournament in Barrington, and we’re gonna have some wonderful times in December to give money away,” said tournament co-founder Billy Andrade.
This year, the tournament donated $1.4 million to local organizations, bringing the CVS Health Charity Classic’s donation total to more than $18 million.
Representatives for each of the organizations, as well as the tournament’s working charities that provide volunteers at the tournament, attended Thursday’s check presentation.
The CVS Health Charity Classic will return for the 16th year from June 28 – June 30, 2015 at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington.
