Gunfire rings out at two separate scenes, 1 injured

Providence police were investigating gunfire on Arch Street on Dec. 18, 2014.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police were called to two separate scenes overnight in which gunfire was reported. In one of the incidents, a woman was shot.

Providence Police Commander Thomas Oates confirmed Victoria Simas, 24, was sitting in a car with her boyfriend, 25-year-old Daniel Cabrera when a four-door Lexus pulled up. Someone in that car got out and fired into the car in which Simas was sitting.

Police said Cabrera drove Simas to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

In a separate incident, police responded to gunfire on Arch Street.

According to police, an eyewitness told officers someone in a silver Honda shot at a black vehicle and that the victim appeared to have been shot in the leg.

Police did recover seven shell casings from the scene as well as multiple projectile fragments. However, after checking with area hospitals, investigators were not able to find a victim.
