Suitcase of drugs found in woods, police seek suspect

REHOBOTH, Mass. (WPRI) — Police in Rehoboth are searching for a suspect after they discovered a suitcase full of drugs abandoned in the woods.

Police responded to County Street on Wednesday night and discovered two men standing near their cars in the roadway, arguing over a minor accident. As officers were investigating, one of the men removed a large suitcase from the trunk of a car and took off towards the woods, police said.rehoboth pd drugs

The suspect, who is described as a black male, ran into the woods and abandoned the suitcase before fleeing.

Police located the suitcase and discovered two kilograms of heroin, approximately 500 grams of cocaine, 300 oxycodone pills, and three pounds of marijuana. The drugs have an estimated value of $250,000.

The suspects have been tentatively identified as Gilberto Oliveria-Mendes, 20, of Taunton, and Latesha Santos, 24, of Wareham. Santos was arrested at the scene. Police discovered two replica pellet guns inside of Oliveria-Mendes’ car, and are actively searching for him.
