PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — It was not a White Christmas this year, but the next closest activity was found Thursday night at the Providence ice skating rink.
Rink officials told Eyewitness News they had about 200 skaters by 8 p.m. on Thursday. Many skaters said the mild weather took them by surprise, but didn’t stop them from getting into the holiday spirit.
“I expected it to be snowing, but it kind of shocked me because when I looked out the window, the sun was outside shining. I found that a little unusual,” said skater Janet Pontes.
Some skaters reported that parts of the ice were melting in the warm weather, but overall the rink was usable.
