NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — A Newport lawyer was arrested on drunk-driving charges after police said she hit three parked cars in the city early Tuesday morning.
A Jeep Grand Cherokee was parked on Gould Street for the night when attorney Jeanne Scott crashed her car into the back of it, according to Lt. William Fitzgerald, Jr.
Fitzgerald said four cars were significantly damaged in the incident, including Scott’s.
Neighbors shared with Eyewitness News photos of the aftermath, and the owner of one of the cars said it was totaled in the crash.
Fitzgerald said that Scott was drunk when she drove into the other cars, and was behind the wheel when officers arrived on scene. She had a bloody nose after the crash, and police said she refused to take any sobriety tests.
“She had several indicators of intoxication,” said Fitzgerald. “Bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, unsteady in her balance.”
Scott was taken to police headquarters, then to the hospital to be evaluated. She’s facing several charges, including driving under the influence and failure to submit to a breathalyzer test.
