FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — A Fall River man has been taken into custody in connection with a homicide that took place in the city early on New Year’s Day.
Police arrested Jeffrey Souza without incident in Newport on charges of carrying an illegal firearm and carrying a loaded illegal firearm, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s office. Souza, 24, is also being charged in Rhode Island as a fugitive from justice.
Police responded to reports of a man being shot near the intersection of Albert and Huard Streets at about 1:15 a.m. Thursday.
The victim, identified as 28-year-old Kyle Brady of Fall River, was pronounced dead at the scene. Friends of Brady drove by the scene of the crime throughout the day, telling Eyewitness News he was a good friend, and an even better father to his little girl.
Souza’s connection to the homicide could not yet be released because the investigation remains active and ongoing. He’ll be arraigned Friday morning on the fugitive charge, then will be transported back to Massachusetts if he waives rendition in court.
