PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) –A major retailer announced Wednesday they plan to vacate the Providence Place Mall.
JC Penney has notified the mall’s owners that it will close its location there before the end of the year.
Dante Bellini, Jr., a spokesperson for the mall, released a statement, saying:
We never like to see a retailer close shop; however, this was a decision made at the corporate level of JCP. It’s too soon to determine what impact, if any, this will have on the property. We are always looking at options to enhance our already stellar retailer, dining and overall experiential line-up at Providence Place. At this time, we have no details to share with you; but we know when that time arrives, our shoppers will be just as excited as we are.
It’s important to note that Providence Place is nearly 100% leased and continues to provide an outstanding retailer, dining and entertainment experience…. and will continue to do so as retailers look to expand their existing line-up and new concepts. From a leasing perspective, we look at this as a huge opportunity. We’ll be talking more about that in the future.”
There’s no word yet on what will move into the large retail space.
