Wildcats maul Suffolk 94-57

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Five players scored in double figures to lead the men’s basketball team to a 94-57 victory against Suffolk in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Wildcat Center on Saturday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales junior Tom Garrick (Seekonk, Mass.) led all scorers with 23 points and six assists while fellow junior Quarry Greenaway (Westchester, N.Y.) notched 20 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Junior Clayton Roker (Bronx, N.Y.) tallied 12 points and five boards while junior Robert Lewis (Providence, R.I.) had 11 points and three rebounds in the victory. Freshman Jarell Lawson (Providence, R.I.) rounded out the double-digit scorers for JWU with 10 points and three boards for the Wildcats.

Sophomore Matt Duquette (Swampscott, Mass.) paced Suffolk with 15 points and six rebounds while junior Adam Chick (Northbrook, Ill.) was also in double figures with 10 points and four boards in the setback for the Rams.

JWU led from wire to wire, jumping out to an early 18-9 lead after a three pointer by junior Rudy Brito (Pawtucket, R.I.) with 14:38 left in the first half. The Wildcats first double-digit advantage came on a three pointer by Lawson to put the squad up 27-17 midway through the half. The Wildcats led by as many as 25 points in the stanza before taking a 54-31 lead heading into the locker room at halftime. 30 of the Wildcats 54 points came in the paint while JWU capitalized on 17 points off of Suffolk turnovers.

The Wildcats pulled away in the second half, leading by as many as 45 after a jumper by Lewis made the score 90-45 with 7:01 remaining. JWU then cruised to the 94-57 victory.

With the victory JWU improves to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the GNAC while Suffolk falls to 6-7 on the year and 3-3 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, January 14th when they host Norwich in a GNAC matchup starting at 7:00 p.m.
