Woman saved by Wilfork faces DUI charge in court

WRENTHAM, Mass. (WPRI) — A woman that was pulled from her vehicle by Vince Wilfork after she crashed outside Gillette Stadium went before a judge Tuesday, accused of driving while drunk.

Mary Ellen Brooks pleaded not guilty to DUI charges during her arraignment in Wrentham District Court.

Police said she was drunk when her Jeep rolled over on Route 1 in Foxboro following Sunday night’s AFC Championship game between the Patriots and the Colts. Brooks is a Patriots season ticket holder and was at the game that night.

Her lawyers said she was trying to turn around when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed. Prosecutors said she had a blood-alcohol level of 0.17 at the time of the crash – a little more than twice the legal limit.

Wilfork saw what was happening and pulled over to help. The 325-pound lineman pulled Brooks out of the overturned vehicle with one arm.

Brooks was released on personal recognizance after her arraignment. She had no comment outside of court, but her attorney said this is her first offense.
