POTSDAM, N.Y. – Todd Christian paced Clarkson with a pair of goals as the Brown men’s hockey team fell to the Golden Knights, 6-0, in Friday evening’s ECAC contest at Cheel Arena.

Clarkson improved to 9-11-4 and 5-4-2 in the ECAC, while Brown dropped to 4-14 overall and 1-10 in the conference.

Greg Lewis stopped all 29 shots he faced to earn the shutout victory. Tyler Steel (Vernon, British Columbia) made 13 saves and allowed three goals in net for the Bears before giving way to Tim Ernst (Pickering, Ontario), who made 14 stops.

After nine minutes of scoreless play to open the contest, rookie Charlie Corcoran (New Canaan, Conn.) took advantage of a turnover in the neutral zone to set up a 3-on-1 rush, but Matt Lorito’s (Oakville, Ontario) shot rang off the post to keep it at 0-0.

Clarkson jumped on the board just over one minute later when Kevin Tansey scored at 10:27 as he ripped a shot from in front of the blue line to give the Golden Knights the early lead, 1-0.

Brown ended the stanza with a few good shifts, creating back-to-back scoring opportunities in front of the crease, but Lorito and Nick Lappin (Geneva, Ill.) were turned away by Lewis as the Bears trailed by one goal at the first intermission. Clarkson held a slim edge in shots, 11-10, in the opening period.

Brown bounced right back with an opportunity early in the second, as several players crashed the net for consecutive shots, but the play was called dead after Clarkson’s DiNallo covered the puck in the crease to give Brown a penalty shot. Nevertheless, Lewis denied Lorito with his left pad to preserve the one-goal advantage.

After a boarding call on A.J. Fossen gave the Bears a five-minute major, the Golden Knights killed off the penalty and scored shortly after at 7:52 to take a two-goal lead. Despite several strong bids by Brown during the power-play, Janick Asselin stormed out of the box after serving the penalty and rifled a shot past Steel to make it 2-0.

Todd Christian scored less than two minutes later and James de Haas added a power-play goal late in the period to push the home side in front, 4-0, at the second intermission.

Christian notched his second tally of the game at 6:38 in the third period, as he tapped home a rebound to give Clarkson the five-goal advantage. Jordan Boucher scored later in the period to seal the victory.
