PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island has been awarded an additional $2.45 million in federal funds to help low-income families pay their heating bills.
U.S. Reps. Jim Langevin and David Cicilline announced that the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program will receive an additional $300 million in federal funds and Rhode Island’s share is $2.45 million.
They say Rhode Island will receive a total of more than $27 million for fiscal 2015.
Langevin says families should not have to forego heating their homes during the winter when temperatures can dip dangerously low. Cicilline says the program is a lifeline for Rhode Island residents and a vital program that must be protected.
