PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Jackie Robinson West team has been stripped of their 2014 Little League World Championship title for using ineligible players, according to ESPN.
The Jackie Robinson team has reportedly been accused by Little League International that they used a falsified boundary map, and that team officials met with neighboring districts in Illinois to claim players and build a super team of sorts.
Jackie Robinson West eliminated the Cumberland American team in the Little League World Series by a score of 8-7 in a back-and-forth game.
“Disappointed of the outcome of what I heard. It’s wrong, but then again this is not coming from the kids, and it’s the kids who get hurt. It’s coming from adults who did something for selfish reasons,” said Cumberland head coach Dave Belisle. “When you do something wrong, it does catch up to you, and the people who are responsible for it, I wish they would’ve thought about who ended up getting the worst of the results, and it’s these poor young kids who win a championship and get it taken away.”
