PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Communities across Rhode Island are benefiting from new weather stations installed by National Grid and Earth Networks.

According to a news release from National Grid, the installations began in July 2014. Weather Bug stations are now up and running in the following communities:

  • Coventry
  • Westerly
  • Bristol
  • Charlestown
  • Exeter
  • Hopkinton
  • Little Compton

The stations monitor weather conditions in real time. National Grid says that information can help communities respond more quickly and efficiently to severe weather, and help National Grid respond to power outages.
