Pawtucket stabbing ruled a homicide, victim identified

PAWTUCKET. R.I. (WPRI) — Pawtucket police have confirmed that the stabbing Tuesday night was in fact a homicide.

Police responded to an assault in the area of 151 Benefit Street around 4:45 p.m.

The victim who was suffering from stab wounds was rushed to Pawtucket Memorial Hospital.

The victim, who has now been identified as 53-year-old William McKenna, was pronounced dead later at the hospital.

The owner of the store said he left his store to go home and do laundry, but when he came back the victim was laying in front of his store.

“First time (it has) happened in my store in 10 years…never like this, first time like this,” said Saeed Malik.

Police have not disclosed any information regarding suspects or a motive.

The store’s owner said his employee inside the store did not recognize the man.

The investigation is ongoing.
